Escape into the thriving wild
A rare opportunity for you to experience and protect one of Africa’s most iconic wildernesses.
Unmatched Abundance
Along one of the most wildlife-rich stretches of the Sand River in the Greater Kruger and Sabi Sand region in Mpumalanga, South Africa, the Tengile MalaMala Collection brings together two lodges and three camps. For nearly a century, this land has been protected and now enters a new chapter of focused stewardship and long-term investment.
We stand for balance where people and wildlife thrive together. Rooted in partnership with the warm-hearted Shangaan community, our ethos ensures that when our people prosper, so too does our wilderness.

Accommodation
Our lodges and camps each offer a distinct expression of the wilderness, from earthy traditional and nostalgic charm to contemporary sophistication. This location is widely respected across the Greater Kruger for what it effortlessly attracts. Wildlife idles through the surrounding riverine habitat day and night, so from the moment you arrive, there’s no need to leave your deck to begin your spectacular adventure.
Lodges
Tengile River Lodge and Rattray’s Lodge offer privacy, generous proportions and magnificent interior design. Each suite opens directly onto the Sand River, where the water transforms the bush experience - attracting the widest diversity of animals and birds - like no other. Guests are able to get closer to nature in private plunge pools, indoor and outdoor showers and observe from spacious living areas. In this area of the Kruger, game drives are intentionally intimate, without compromising on the classic rhythm of safari.
Camps
MalaMala Camp, Sable Camp and Kirkman’s Kamp are renowned for their environmentally mindful design and classic safari atmosphere, rooted in heritage and connection to the land. Positioned along the Sand River, each camp balances comfort with immersion, with generous communal spaces and a relaxed pace that feels true to the setting.
"Nowhere in Africa can the scenic beauty and wildlife behaviour be remotely compared to MalaMala in any aspect and it is hands down the most remarkable place I have ever filmed in."
Our story
With roots reaching back to 1927, our story is one of stewardship, partnership and respect for nature: a philosophy guided by the Shangaan principle of Ntumbuluko, meaning deep harmony with the land.

Today, under shared community ownership, Tengile MalaMala continues to protect its wilderness and empower its people.
COMMUNITY
Our purpose extends beyond the land – it’s about people. As one of South Africa’s few black-empowered eco-tourism enterprises, we work hand-in-hand with the N’wandlamhari community to create lasting social and economic impact.
